Team Debate
Each team contests 3 debates. In each debate, a team is assigned affirmative or negative, and the motion (related to the syllabus) is given on the spot by the judge.
Each team has 15 minutes to prepare, after which each scholar gets 3-4 minutes to speak (Depends if the round is a regional or global), and 60 seconds in between each speaker.
After everyone has spoken, each team is given 90 seconds for feedback to the other team, which must compliment them, followed by pointing out where they can improve. Remember, feedback is also counted in the final score! To find out how to perform well in Debate, check out our resources page!
Collaborative Writing
Poets and writers galore! You and your team will be provided with 2 sheets per member — a sheet showing your writing prompts, and the 2nd being the actual writing sheet.
You will be given 20 mins to discuss with your team to choose a topic, and then you can decide on what to write, with teammates giving suggestions. You cannot choose the same prompt as your teammate. In these 20 mins, you are allowed to talk to your teammates. Following this is 45 mins of complete silence, where everyone writes upon their chosen topic. Then you have 15 mins at the end to cross check and discuss with your teammates.
To find out how to improve your writing, check our resources! You can also see the prompts of the mock writing round we conducted there
Scholar's Challenge
THE test of your critical thinking ability. The questions come from the syllabus. 120 MCQs that will definitely make you rethink your choices. In each question, you will have 5 options to choose from — but you may not tick just one.
If you ticked one option which is correct, you get one point. If you tick 2 options out of which one is correct, you get 1/2 points, if you ticked 3 then 1/3 points, 1/4 points for 4 and 1/5 points if you tick all 5.
Studying the curriculum is what scholars spend the most time on, which is why you can check out our resources page to see how you can ace it!
Scholars Bowl
